Editorial: Introducing the Journal of Human Rights and Refugee Studies

It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the inaugural issue of the Journal of Human Rights and Refugee Studies. This new journal is dedicated to providing a vital platform for scholarly research and discussion on the pressing issues of human rights and refugee studies. As global events continue to bring these topics to the forefront of international discourse, we believe that the launch of this journal is both timely and necessary.

Filling a Critical Gap

In recent years, the world has witnessed unprecedented levels of forced displacement, with millions of individuals fleeing persecution, conflict, and human rights abuses. While there are numerous publications dedicated to human rights and refugee issues, we identified a need for a journal that specifically addresses the intersection of these two fields. The Journal of Human Rights and Refugee Studies seeks to fill this gap by offering a platform for interdisciplinary research that considers the legal, social, political, and ethical dimensions of human rights and refugee protection.

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusivity

We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in our editorial process and the research we publish. The journal welcomes submissions from scholars and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, including law, political science, sociology, anthropology, international relations, and public health. We are particularly interested in voices from the Global South and perspectives that have historically been underrepresented in academic discourse. We believe that a diversity of viewpoints enriches our understanding of complex issues and fosters a more nuanced and comprehensive dialogue.

Acknowledgements

The launch of the Journal of Human Rights and Refugee Studies would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions and support of many dedicated individuals. First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to the volunteer writers whose work is featured in this inaugural issue. Their commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering critical dialogue on human rights and refugee issues has been instrumental in bringing this journal to life. We are honored to showcase their insightful research and analysis, which lay the foundation for the journal's future endeavors. We also wish to thank our peer reviewers, who have generously contributed their time and knowledge to uphold the high standards of the journal.

Finally, we express our appreciation to Academics at Risk board of directors who have supported the launch of this journal, including our readers, who share our passion for human rights and refugee studies. It is with your support that we embark on this journey, and we look forward to continuing to work together to advance understanding and promote positive change in these critical fields.

Call for Submissions

As we publish this first issue, we invite researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit their work to future issues of the Journal of Human Rights and Refugee Studies. We welcome original research articles, review essays, case studies, and policy analyses that contribute to a deeper understanding of human rights and refugee issues. We look forward to receiving your contributions and to continuing this important conversation.

Overview of the Inaugural Issue

In this inaugural issue, we have included articles that reflect the scope and depth of the journal's mission. We believe that we have made a historical note of the deprivation of human rights in the ongoing trial of Hidayet Karaca in particular.

We hope you find the articles in this issue thought-provoking and inspiring. Thank you for joining us on this journey to advance research and dialogue in the field of human rights and refugee studies.

Sincerely,

Halil Demirer
